Terry towels and Solapuri chaddars (bedsheets), both GI-tagged, come off the city's power looms, and Solapur has also grown into a large cluster for school uniforms and readymade garments. The surrounding district is a major sugarcane and pomegranate belt supplying many sugar mills, and NTPC operates a coal-fired power station nearby.
