SaaS product development

From MVP to multi-tenant platform: we design, build and run SaaS products with subscription billing, tenant isolation, role-based access and AI features built in. We run our own SaaS products, so we build like owners, not contractors.

02 — Foundations

What a production SaaS needs

The features customers never praise but always notice when they are missing.

01

Multi-tenancy & isolation

Every query scoped to the tenant, with database-level protections so one customer can never see another's data.

02

Authentication & SSO

Email, social and enterprise single sign-on, with multi-factor authentication for admins.

03

Subscription billing

Plans, trials, seats and usage-based pricing, invoices with the right tax, dunning and upgrades.

04

Roles & permissions

Owner, admin and member roles out of the box, custom roles when customers ask.

05

Admin console

Support tools to see a tenant's setup, impersonate safely and fix issues without database access.

06

Onboarding

Sign-up, guided setup, sample data and in-app guidance that get a new account to value quickly.

07

Product analytics

Activation, retention and feature usage, so the roadmap follows evidence.

08

Public API & webhooks

So customers and partners can integrate, and your product can sit inside their workflows.

03 — Architecture

Choosing a multi-tenant model

ModelHow it worksGood forTrade-off
Shared databaseOne schema; every row carries a tenant ID and every query is filtered by itMost small-business SaaS; fastest to build and cheapest to runIsolation depends on discipline; row-level security helps
Schema per tenantSame database, a separate schema for each customerMid-market customers who want stronger separationMore migrations to manage as tenants grow
Database per tenantEach customer gets its own databaseEnterprise or regulated customers and data-residency needsHighest cost and operational effort

Most products start with a shared database and PostgreSQL row-level security, then move their largest customers to dedicated databases later. We design the tenant boundary on day one so that move is possible without a rewrite.

04 — Path

From MVP to scale

01

Validate

Problem interviews and a clickable prototype before any production code.

02

MVP

The core workflow, sign-up and billing: enough for paying customers, nothing more.

03

Version 1

Onboarding, admin console, analytics and the integrations customers ask for first.

04

Scale

Performance work, enterprise features such as SSO and audit logs, and multi-region hosting.

05

Operate

Monitoring, support and a roadmap driven by usage data.

05 — Billing

Payments and tax around the world

Stripe accepts cards from customers almost everywhere, but it is available to merchants in a limited list of countries, and cards are not how everyone pays. In India, gateways such as Razorpay and UPI-based recurring payments matter; elsewhere local rails such as PIX in Brazil, M-Pesa in Kenya or iDEAL in the Netherlands can decide whether customers convert.

Tax on digital services differs by country: VAT or GST on SaaS often depends on where the customer is, not where you are. We build invoicing that applies the right tax for each customer's location, or integrate a merchant-of-record service where that is simpler. Each of our location guides lists the payment rails and tax rules for that market.

06 — Security

Ready for security reviews

Larger customers will send security questionnaires and ask about SOC 2 or ISO 27001. We build in the controls those audits look for from the start: access control, logging, encryption in transit and at rest, backups, and change management. Certification itself is carried out by independent auditors, but a product built this way gets through it far faster.

FAQ

SaaS product development: common questions

How much does it cost to build a SaaS MVP?

It depends on the core workflow's complexity, the number of user roles, integrations and how much of billing, onboarding and admin you need on day one. We scope the smallest product paying customers will accept and quote it as a fixed scope after discovery.

How long does it take to build a SaaS product?

An MVP is measured in weeks to a few months, delivered in two-week increments so you can show it to customers early. Version 1 and scaling work follow in stages driven by what customers actually use.

What is multi-tenant architecture?

Multi-tenant architecture means one running application serves many customer organisations (tenants), with each tenant's data kept separate. It can be done with a shared database and a tenant ID on every row, a schema per tenant, or a database per tenant; the choice trades cost against isolation.

Which tech stack do you use for SaaS?

Typically React and Next.js, Java or Python services, and PostgreSQL or Supabase, with Stripe or regional gateways for billing. It is a mainstream stack that is fast to build with and easy to hire for later.

Should I outsource SaaS development, and how do I protect my IP?

Outsourcing works when you keep product ownership and the team works in the open. Agree IP and code ownership in writing before work starts, sign an NDA, keep the repository and cloud accounts in your name, and insist on documentation. That is how we work by default.

Can you add AI features to our SaaS?

Yes. Common additions are search and assistants over customer data using RAG, document processing, drafting and summarisation, and agents that act through your product's API, all built with evaluation, guardrails and cost controls.

Can you build white-label or reseller SaaS?

Yes: per-tenant branding and custom domains, reseller hierarchies with their own customers, and billing that splits revenue between levels.

Do you support the product after launch?

Yes. We run what we build: monitoring, fixes, dependency and security updates, and new features on a roadmap you control.
