Pumps and motors made in Coimbatore supply a large share of India's farms and homes, and the city also builds textile machinery, wet grinders and machine tools. Spinning mills around it turn cotton into yarn for knitters in nearby Tiruppur, while foundries cast parts for auto and pump makers and IT firms work out of Tidel Park and Saravanampatti.
