Business in Kochi
Spices first brought traders to Kochi, and the port still anchors its economy: the Vallarpadam container terminal, Cochin Shipyard and an oil refinery all sit within the city region. Seafood exporters, spice processors and the Spices Board's headquarters keep agri-exports central, while Infopark and the Cochin SEZ at Kakkanad house IT and export units. Tourism and wholesale trade in Ernakulam's markets complete the picture.
Also known as Cochin and Ernakulam.
Where software helps: Seafood and spice exporters must match every container to processing batches, buyer specifications, health certificates and export documents, while managing advances to suppliers and swinging raw-material prices.
