Business in Kollam
Cashew built Kollam: hundreds of processing units roast, shell, peel and grade raw nuts, much of them imported from Africa, and export the kernels worldwide. Fishing from Neendakara and Sakthikulangara feeds seafood processors and exporters, beach sands at Chavara yield ilmenite and rare-earth minerals for public-sector plants, and coir, ceramics at Kundara and a small cargo port complete the economy.
Also known as Quilon.
Where software helps: Cashew processors buying African raw nuts need container-wise outturn tracking, kernel grading into many export grades, piece-rate wages for shelling and peeling workers, and export documentation for every lot.
