Gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin and cargo through two ports drive Kakinada's economy. Offshore oil and gas operations and gas-based power plants are run from the city, which also has large fertiliser plants, edible-oil refineries and food processing. Its anchorage and deep-water ports ship rice, much of it to Africa, along with fertilisers and edible oils, and the Godavari delta supports aquaculture and seafood processing.
