Business in Auckland
Fonterra, the dairy co-operative behind most of New Zealand's milk exports, has its head office in Auckland, as do Air New Zealand and several of the main banks. Ports of Auckland and Auckland Airport handle a large share of the country's imports, supporting wholesale, warehousing and freight clusters in East Tāmaki, Penrose and Wiri, and the city is also the main base for software and creative firms.
Also known as Tāmaki Makaurau.
Where software helps: Auckland importers and wholesalers face shipping delays, GST on imports and landed-cost swings, so they need purchase orders, container tracking and multi-warehouse stock tied together to price accurately for retail and trade customers.
