Business in Boise, ID
Potatoes built some of Boise's biggest companies: J.R. Simplot, which supplies frozen fries and fertilizer, and Lamb Weston in nearby Eagle are headquartered in the Treasure Valley. Micron Technology, founded here in 1978, is building a large memory-chip fab next to its campus, Albertsons runs its national grocery chain from Boise, and Boise Cascade distributes plywood, lumber and engineered wood to builders across the country.
Also known as Treasure Valley.
Where software helps: Boise lumber and building-materials dealers serving the Treasure Valley's homebuilders need job-site delivery scheduling, contractor credit limits and quotes that track volatile lumber prices, which simple point-of-sale systems do not support.
