Chikankari, the fine white-thread hand embroidery, is Lucknow's best-known product, stitched by home-based artisans across the city and nearby villages for showrooms and exporters. As Uttar Pradesh's capital the city leans on government, courts, hospitals, universities and retail, with industrial estates at Amausi, Chinhat and Talkatora, defence and aerospace units such as HAL's accessories division, and a large food trade built on Awadhi cuisine.
