Business in Kano
Trans-Saharan caravans made Kano a trading city centuries ago, and commerce still dominates: Kantin Kwari is one of West Africa's largest textile markets, and grain, sesame, hides and skins, and livestock are traded from across northern Nigeria and from Niger. Tanneries, flour mills and plastics plants operate in the Sharada, Challawa and Bompai industrial estates, and the Dala Inland Dry Port clears containers locally.
Where software helps: Wholesalers supplying retailers across northern Nigeria and neighbouring countries extend credit to hundreds of buyers, needing clear customer ledgers and reconciliation of cash, POS and bank-transfer receipts.
