Farmed shrimp from the Gulf of Guayaquil and bananas and cocoa from the coastal plains are Ecuador's main non-oil exports, and most of them leave through Guayaquil's river terminals and the deep-water port at Posorja. Packers, exporters, importers and banks such as Banco de Guayaquil are based in the city, which, like the rest of Ecuador, does business in US dollars.
