Denim, cotton fabric and dyes built Ahmedabad's industrial base, and the city remains a major denim producer. Pharmaceutical groups including Zydus, Torrent and Intas are headquartered here, chemical and engineering units fill the Vatva, Naroda and Odhav estates, and car plants at Sanand on the outskirts have pulled in auto-component suppliers.
