Cricket bats, balls, nets and gym equipment from Meerut's sports-goods factories reach players across the country and abroad; with Jalandhar it is one of India's two main sports-goods centres. The city also makes scissors, brass-band instruments and gold jewellery, its Sarafa bazaar is a large bullion and ornament market, and sugar mills in the surrounding cane belt feed agri-business. Partapur and Udyog Puram are its main industrial estates.
