Silver filigree, or tarakasi, is Cuttack's signature craft, worked into jewellery and ornaments in small family workshops. As Odisha's former capital and seat of its High Court, the city remains the state's main wholesale centre: Malgodown is its largest commodities market and Chhatra Bazaar supplies traders statewide. Textile trading, ferro-alloy plants at Choudwar and small industries at Jagatpur complete the economy.
